Careers and Life Planning

1st–3rd: Develop and expand girls’
awareness of career possibilities

4th-5th: Place major emphasis on helping
girls explore new interests and skills, as well as a wide
variety of future career options

Teens: Place major emphasis on providing
girls with actual work experiences, paid or volunteer
Operation SMART (Science, Math, and Relevant
Technology)
Economic Literacy
Introducing girls to non-stereotypical career options
Self-Reliance and Life Skills

1st–3rd: Develop basic skills
needed to function confidently, competently and safely
in the home,
center, school, and neighborhood

4th-5th: Place major emphasis on helping
girls develop the skills necessary to function confidently,
competently, and safely with minimal adult supervision

Teens: Place major emphasis on promoting
the development of basic living skills, as girls become
increasingly independent
Sports and Adventure
-
1st–3rd: Develop basic skills and
motivations necessary for participation in sports and adventure
-
4th-5th: Place major emphasis on helping
girls master basic sports skills and enjoy physical activity

Teens: Place major emphasis on helping
girls maintain an interest in athletic participation and
develop proficiency in the sports of their choice

1st–3rd: Build understanding and
experience how they can help themselves and others through
leadership and community action.

4th-5th: Place major emphasis on helping
girls understand their potential for effecting change within
and beyond their local community. Implement programs in
which girls explore leadership systems and learn and practice
leadership skills.

Teens: Place major emphasis on helping
girls exercise power and effect change in their communities
and in wider society.

1st–3rd: Promote the development
of positive attitudes toward personal health and sexuality

4th-5th: Place major emphasis on making
girls aware of the changes that accompany puberty and helping
them develop the needed skills to handle new feelings and
pressures

Teens: Place major emphasis on helping
girls understand and respond appropriately to the emotional,
psychological and social tasks and responsibilities that
accompany adolescence
